The US Defense Department stated that the US Army had issued defense contractor Boeing a $591 million contract for Apache attack helicopters.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Army has issued defense contractor Boeing a $591 million contract for Apache attack helicopters, the US Defense Department said in a statement.
“Boeing… was awarded a $591,245,165 modification… to fixed-price-incentive contract W58RGZ-14-C-0018 to acquire 35 AH-64E Apache helicopters,” the statement, issued on Thursday, said.The AH-64E Apache is used for armed reconnaissance, close combat, mobile strike, and vertical maneuver missions, the US Army said on its website.
“It is highly mobile, lethal, and can destroy armor, personnel, and materiel targets in obscured battlefield conditions at ranges out to 8 kms,” according to the Army.
The contract is expected to be completed on July 31, 2015, according to the US Defense Department statement.
