Scoot (TZ)—Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) new medium- to long-haul low-cost carrier—has agreed to acquire 20 Boeing 787 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2014. The aircraft were originally ordered by SIA (ATW Daily News, Oct. 12, 2006). Engine selection will be made at a later date.
The 787s will be used to replace TZ’s Boeing 777-200 fleet and facilitate the airline’s ongoing expansion, according to a carrier statement.
TZ began operations in June (ATW Daily News, June 6).
TZ CEO Campbell Wilson said the carrier “has quickly grown to a fleet of four aircraft and a network soon to encompass nine cities.”
TZ’s network now comprises six cities—Singapore, Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei and Tianjin. The carrier will launch service to Tokyo Oct. 29, and Shenyang and Qingdao in November.
