MiG aircraft corporation is close to completing negotiations with the Russian Defense Ministry for supply of MiG29K/KUB fighters for Russian Navy, MiG deputy head Sergei Korotkov said on Friday.
“We are in the final stages of contract negotiations with the Russian Defense Ministry, which will buy MiG29K/KUB for naval aviation,” Korotkov said.
The Defense Ministry is also interested in the new MiG-35 multirole fighter, an advanced derivative of the MiG-29, Korotkov added.
Russia sold up to 180 MiG-29 fighter jets all over the world from 1999 to 2010, according to the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST), a Moscow-based think-tank.
India, the launch customer for the MiG-29K, is currently taking deliveries of the aircraft for a reconditioned aircraft carrier being refitted by Russia’s Sevmash shipyard.
