Bombardier Aerospace today announced that it has selected EMS Aviation to provide new increased high-speed internet connectivity as an option for Global 5000 and Global 6000 business jets. The new system features ViaSat Ku-band communication system and EMS router equipment, providing a virtual office in the sky with typical download speeds as experienced on the ground*; and complements the aircraft’s standard L-band SwiftBroadband system. Designed to operate with the ViaSat Yonder® high-speed Internet service and available through service partners**, the system offers increased connectivity and multi-regional service coverage.
“Global business aircraft cabins are specifically designed to provide a highly productive working environment, a key factor in making these aircraft a leading choice for corporations worldwide. EMS Aviation has been leading the charge in the development of communication systems, using EMS high-speed routers and Yonder Broadband service to provide the most resilient in-flight data links,†said Stéphane Leblanc, Vice President and General Manager, Global platform, Bombardier Business Aircraft.
“Aircraft equipped with this system will be able to use our Yonder high-speed Internet service to enjoy a truly modern office environment anywhere in our coverage network,†said Don Buchman, ViaSat Director, Mobile Broadband. “The service will allow Global aircraft customers to make the most efficient use of their time onboard.â€
With Yonder high-speed Internet service, the Global 5000 and Global 6000 business jets will feature full Internet connectivity (Wi-Fi), Virtual Private Network (VPN), e-mail with attachments via laptops, voice-over IP (VoIP) and the use of other Wi-Fi devices. The high-speed data suite includes typical* download speeds to aircraft of above 1 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload from the aircraft speeds of more than 128 kilobits per second (kbps).
The high-speed Internet suite includes the ViaSat VMT-1500 shipset and EMS Aviation’s CNX® 200 Network Accelerator (router) that provides bandwidth usage optimization through data compression algorithms for the selected link, and automatic switching modes based on connected link quality or availability (SwiftBroadband or Yonder).
