System is industry’s first to feature synthetic vision on HUD
Rockwell Collins announced today that its Pro Line Fusion® integrated avionics system was granted certification from Transport Canada (TC) on Bombardier Aerospace’s Global Vision* flight deck. This marks the first certification of Pro Line Fusion on a customer aircraft. The Global Vision flight deck with Pro Line Fusion will be featured on Bombardier’s Global 5000* and Global 6000* business jets.
“This is an important milestone, as Global Vision equipped aircrafts can now be granted a certificate of airworthiness. To date, we’ve completed over 600 hours of flight testing and are progressing full throttle towards certification of specific advanced features such as the incorporation of Enhanced Vision and Synthetic Vision on the head-up display,†said Stéphane Leblanc, vice president and general manager, Global* Aircraft, Bombardier Business Aircraft.
“This is an industry-changing accomplishment,†said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional Systems for Rockwell Collins. “The revolutionary capabilities of Pro Line Fusion on the Global Vision flight deck are the result of countless hours of dedicated teamwork between both companies.â€
Certifications from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency are expected to follow later this year. Entry into service is on schedule for early 2012.
Bombardier Aerospace and Rockwell Collins will be the first to certify synthetic vision on a head-up display as part of the Pro Line Fusion avionics system on the Global Vision flight deck. In April 2011, Rockwell Collins announced it obtained all FAA Technical Standard Orders for its Pro Line Fusion avionics suite, the first application of which will be on Global business jets.
Pro Line Fusion for the Global Vision flight deck features four high-resolution 15-inch diagonal active matrix liquid crystal displays (LCD), which are the largest available for this application and arranged in a T-shape, that work in concert with an integrated Head-up Guidance System (HGSTM) and showcases the following capabilities:
- Synthetic-Enhanced Vision System
- Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)
- Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV)
- Controller-Pilot Datalink Communication (CPDLC)
- Personalized formats of display information
- Electronic checklist
- Maps with graphical flight planning
- Integrated cursor control panel
- Dual Electronics Charts enabling paperless operation
- Future Air Navigation System (FANS)
The Global Vision flight deck also features Rockwell Collins MultiScanâ„¢ Threat Detection system which provides optimal clutter-free weather displays that reduce pilot workload and enhance safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters.
