Airbus has received an order worth $7.2 billion for 72 planes from Indian carrier GoAir, the latest in a series of Indian carriers scrambling to meet growing demand in Asia‘s third-largest economy.
The order for A320 planes brings GoAir’s total order book with Airbus to $9.6 billion (Rs 43,200 crore), Managing Director Jeh Wadia told reporters on Thursday. The purchase will be financed as a combination of equity and debt.
The new orders will be delivered over the next five to seven years, Wadia said.
The A320 NEO offers 15 per cent savings on fuel burn and 11 per cent reduction on operating cost per seat. This will also enable the airline to reduce fare, he said.
