On April 29th 2011 a formation of RAF fast jets and aircraft from the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) will over-fly Admiralty Arch, along, The Mall and over Buckingham Palace in celebration of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

On 27th April at RAF Coningsby the fast jet element of the formation comprising 2 Tornado GR4’s and 2 Typhoons rehearsed their formation for the flypast.

Tornado GR4 pilot, Wing Commander Richard Davies, Officer Commanding 41 (R) Squadron said: ‘The squadron have been very busy over the last few years and this is an excellent reward for their hard work. It’s a huge honour for the squadron, and personally I’m hugely proud to be involved with something which will be an iconic moment for the UK.’

After Prince William and Catherine Middleton are married at Westminster Abbey on April 29th, they will return to Buckingham Palace to join with other members of the Royal Family and to view the flypast from the Palace balcony. Weather permitting, the flypast will pass over Buckingham Palace at 13.30. On the day of the Royal Wedding the flypast formation will comprise a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane in the lead, all of which are provided by RAF BBMF based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The second element of the flypast, in a box formation will comprise 2 Typhoons provided by RAF Leuchars in Scotland and 2 Tornado GR4’s provided by RAF Coningsby.
