NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. — Members of the F/A-18 and EA-18G Program Office (PMA-265) here, as part of a Naval Air Systems Command contingency, made their way across the pond to participate in the 2010 Farnborough International Air Show Jul 19 – 25 in the United Kingdom.
FIAS takes place biannually and focuses on building partnership capacity by promoting standardization and interoperability of equipment with NATO allies and other potential coalition partners.
PMA-265 is engaged in numerous campaigns around the globe to offer Super Hornets to other air forces and according to Capt. James Kennedy, PMA-265 International Programs this event assists with showcasing some of the best airpower the U.S. Navy has to offer.
“Participation of aircraft and crews at air shows offers a unique opportunity to educate the public and key military and political decision makers on the impressive capability of the F/A-18E/F,†said Kennedy.
As part of the week-long event, Capt. Mark Darrah, PMA-265 program manager, gave a media brief on the F/A-18 and EA-18G to more than 30 national and international media. New production Super Hornets, piloted by aircrew from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Two Three (VX-23) for media flights, were present at the FIAS to provide static displays, audience tours and of course to take to the air as part of the air show to display its power and maneuverability.
“The support of the fleet in the execution of this air show was flawless,†said Darrah. “VFA-106 aircrew ferried the aircraft, leased to Boeing for the show, to and from London, and VX-23 provided aircrew to man the static display. Additionally, we were able to provide a comprehensive media briefing on the status of the Hornet, Super Hornet and Growler programs from the program office perspective. Overall a very successful event.â€
