Alenia Aeronautica will be attending the “Piestany Air Show – national air daysâ€, planned in Slovakia on May
29th and 30th 2010, with its own military tactical transport aircraft C-27J, in the static area and in flight
display during the air show.
The C-27J has been selected by the Slovak Air Force and currently negotiations are under way for the
contract signature. The selection concerns the supply of two C-27Js plus one option, aimed at the transport
of soldiers and military equipment within the context of the Slovak Army’s peace missions, in replacement of
the by-now obsolete Antonov aircraft.
The C-27J provides high cost-effective performances, extreme operating flexibility, excellent performances
in all environment and strategic conditions and unique characteristics of interoperability with heavier
airlifters. The C-27J is a twin-engine turboprop tactical transport aircraft with advanced technology in
avionics, propulsion and systems, capable of performing many missions such as transport of troops, goods
and medicines, MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation), airdrop operations, paratroopers’ launches, search and
rescue (SAR), logistical re-supply, humanitarian assistance, fire fighting and missions in support of
homeland security.
One Eurofighter Typhoon of the Italian Air Force, also present at the Piestany Air Show, will contribute to
showing Italy’s high technology. The Eurofighter, on flight display, could meet the favour of the Slovak Air
Force, interested in renewing its own fleet of fighters. The Eurofighter Typhoon is a supersonic twin-engine
multi-role aircraft, developed and manufactured in collaboration by Alenia Aeronautica for Italy, BAE
Systems for the U.K. and EADS for Germany and Spain. Alenia Aeronautica, with a 19.5% stake, is
responsible for building the left wing, designing and building the rear fuselage together with BAE Systems,
designing and integrating some on-board systems (such as those used for weapons management and
navigation) and integrating the entire propulsion system. In addition, the company is responsible for the final
assembly of all the aircraft made for the Italian Air Force, as well as for those of the “export†clients of the
countries of competence.
