Leeuwarden – By water under extremely high pressure in the jetblast of a jet spraying, take the engine noise considerably. This is the outcome of an experiment that the Dutch Air Force (Air Force) held on airbase Leeuwarden. The trial took place in collaboration with the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) and the Dutch Defense Academy.
The water experiment occurred during the trial operation of a motor of an F-16. Through twelve nozzles was water under great pressure with an angle of sixty degrees in the middle of the jetblast addressed. The jetblast is the hot exhaust from a jet cloud.
With microphones, the noise of the engine measured with and without water injection. The researchers previously had a noise reduction of six to eight decibels calculated, but after the first test seems even a reduction of ten decibels possible. Far from the plane that the human ear represents a halving of the sound.
The results of the investigation in the future may also be used to the sound of jet engines in the air to reduce, the researchers believe.
