China conducted flight tests of the largest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in production, the Caihong-5, Chinese newspaper Huanqiu Shibao reported on Monday.
Caihong 5 (CH-5) is the latest in a series of unmanned aerial vehicles developed by Chinese experts. The first flight of the UAV took place in the province of Gansu in the northwest of the country and lasted for 20 minutes.
According to the newspaper, the wingspan of Caihong-5 is 20 meters. The UAV can stay in the air for 30 hours. Its maximum takeoff weight is three tons, with a load capacity of almost 900 kilograms.
Caihong-5 can carry out reconnaissance missions, as well as air strikes on targets at medium and low altitudes.
