PW127G is exclusive engine on successful C295 medium airlifter.
Today at a special ceremony in Montreal, Airbus Military and Pratt and Whitney Canada marked the delivery of the 250th PW127G engine to Airbus Military. Hosted by Pratt & Whitney Canada’s President John Saabas, the ceremony took place at Pratt and Whitney Canada’s Longueuil plant, and was followed by a tour for executives from Airbus Military. The PW127G is used to power Airbus Military’s C295, the market leader in military Search and Rescue (SAR), maritime patrol, and medium transport. The C295 is a candidate for Canada’s ongoing fixed-wing search and rescue (FWSAR) aircraft program.
“Airbus Military is very proud to celebrate this important milestone in our partnership with Pratt and Whitney Canada,” said Antonio R. Barberan, Senior Vice President for Airbus Military. “Every single C295 that has been sold has engines that were assembled here in Quebec. This investment ensures highly skilled jobs in Canada, but also brings the product of Canadian skills and expertise to the rest of the world.”
To date, 121 C295s have been sold to 16 different countries. The C295 boasts further Canadian content beyond its engines with simulators by CAE and electro/optical sensors by L-3 Wescam. And under Canada’s FWSAR program, Discovery Air would provide in-service support for the C295 fleet and the engine maintenance will be performed by Vector Aerospace, increasing the Canadian participation significantly further.
The relationship between Pratt and Whitney Canada, Airbus Military, and its EADS sister companies extends well beyond the C295. Pratt and Whitney Canada produces the auxiliary power unit (APU) on the A380 commercial jet liner and the PW-206B2 engines on the EC135 twin-engined helicopter. The PT6C-67E has been selected for Eurocopter’s new EC175 helicopter and the ATR42/72 engines have been procured through Airbus sourcing.
“Airbus Military aircraft, like the C295, are proven, reliable, and low risk. We’ve earned that reputation by working with the best suppliers in the world,” concluded Barberan. “A lot of the time, that means looking to Canadian, and particularly Quebec, companies like Pratt and Whitney Canada. We look forward to continuing this relationship well into the future.”
