Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites, a subsidiary of the UK’s leading independent aerospace company Marshall Aerospace, has been awarded a third successive order from BAE Systems Rochester to manufacture additional Eurofighter Aircraft (EFA) helmets by the close of 2014.
Steven Boyd, Managing Director of Marshall Slingsby said: “We are delighted that BAE Systems has chosen Marshall Slingsby as their partner for this third tranche of EFA helmets. This latest order further cements our relationship with BAE Systems and is a testament to the years of research and development jointly undertaken by the BAE Systems/Marshall Slingsby team. The EFA helmet is a major advance in aviation capability and gives Typhoon pilots a significant strategic and tactical advantage when it comes to air combat.”
Marshall Slingsby has been designing and manufacturing inner and outer helmets for the Typhoon aircraft for over nine years at the company’s specialist composite facility in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire. To date the company is already contracted to produce inner and outer helmets to meet tranche 1 and tranche 2 requirements at a value of £6.0M; this tranche 3 order will add helmets to these ongoing programmes worth an additional £1.4M.
