Fresh from his historic second placing in last weekend’s Perth leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Championships, Matt Hall has announced he will carry an all Australian team into at least the event’s next three rounds, starting with Rio de Janeiro next month.
Veteran Technician Len Rulason has resigned from the team and will be replaced by Perth born and based 31-year-old Jack Moshovis, meaning all three core members of the Matt Hall Racing team – Hall, Moshovis and Team Coordinator David Lyall – were born Down Under.
Moshovis is an experienced aircraft mechanic who has worked extensively in Europe and is known for his ability to work under pressure and in remote regions of Western Australia.
Hall has held a long term goal of operating a wholly Australian team and with Moshovis on board that aim has been realised for the Newcastle pilot in just his second season in the Air Race.
“When I started out in the Air Race I harboured the desire to one day have an all Australian team and although that time has come sooner than expected it is a welcome move,†Hall said.
“Lenny (Rulason) came on board and worked very hard to get our new aircraft to the point where we could race and in Perth, race well. He spent a lot of time in the off season working on my aircraft because I needed the extra help and it is something I will always be grateful for.
“He has now decided to spend more time at home in Arizona and I respect his reasons.
“We are fortunate enough to have been able to secure the services of Jack Moshovis and he will be with us for at least the next three races. If we are both happy after the New York race we will look to enter a more long term deal.
“I am confident that Jack, Dave and myself can continue to improve as a team and have fun while we are doing it.â€
Moshovis has welcomed the opportunity to work for Hall.
“I believe working as a Technician for a Red Bull Air Race team is the dream of most young aircraft mechanics and it certainly is for me,†Moshovis said.
“I had spoken to Matt a few years ago when he first heard he would be included in the Air Race about joining his team and now the opportunity has come along I couldn’t say no.
“The Matt Hall Racing team is a professionally run unit and I hope I can contribute to their future successes.â€
Hall is currently ranked fourth in the World Championship, equal on points with third ranked Austrian and 2008 World Champion Hannes Arch.
