Leonardo Secures Landmark 100th Spartan Order with Peru’s New C-27J Purchase

C-27J Spartan

Aviation News – The Peruvian Air Force has ordered an additional Leonardo C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft, marking the 100th global order for the aircraft type and reinforcing Peru’s growing medium airlift capability.

The latest contract increases Peru’s C-27J Spartan fleet to five aircraft, further strengthening the country’s military transport capacity. Delivery is scheduled for 2027, and unlike Peru’s earlier Spartan acquisitions, this aircraft will be delivered in the advanced Next Generation configuration, featuring upgraded systems and improved aerodynamic performance. The order also represents another milestone for Italian aerospace and defense manufacturer Leonardo, which continues expanding the Spartan’s international footprint.

The C-27J Spartan is designed for tactical airlift missions, including troop transport, cargo delivery, humanitarian support, and operations on short or unprepared runways. The Next Generation variant introduces enhanced avionics, improved cockpit systems, and aerodynamic refinements aimed at boosting operational efficiency, mission flexibility, and reduced operating costs—key advantages for countries operating in geographically challenging environments such as Peru.
