Aviation News – India’s Maritime Energy Heli Air Services (MEHAIR) has signed a Letter of Intent with U.S.-based Tidal Flight to acquire up to 10 Polaris hybrid-electric seaplanes, marking a major step toward building a cleaner and more scalable water-based aviation network across the country.

The agreement, announced on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2026, covers five firm aircraft and five options. MEHAIR, widely regarded as India’s first dedicated seaplane operator, aims to modernize regional connectivity by linking coastal cities, islands and inland waterways. The selection of Tidal Flight’s Polaris platform aligns with the company’s strategy to introduce sustainable technology while expanding operations in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.

The Polaris aircraft combines hybrid-electric propulsion with traditional seaplane capabilities, allowing it to take off and land on water while reducing fuel burn and emissions. Designed for short regional hops, the aircraft is expected to lower operating costs and environmental impact, enabling MEHAIR to bolt together routes that are currently underserved or inaccessible by conventional airports. The approach could significantly shorten travel times and open new tourism and business corridors.
