Aviation News – Saab has signed a contract with France’s defence procurement agency to supply two GlobalEye airborne early warning aircraft, strengthening French air surveillance and command capabilities. The deal underscores Europe’s growing focus on integrated air and maritime security amid evolving threats.

The agreement was concluded with the French General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) and includes the aircraft, ground equipment, training, and long-term support. Valued at approximately SEK 12.3 billion, the order will see deliveries take place between 2029 and 2032, marking a significant milestone in Saab’s cooperation with France.

GlobalEye is a multi-domain airborne early warning and control platform built on a long-range business jet, combining advanced radar, sensors, and command-and-control systems. It enables real-time detection and tracking of air, sea, and land targets, acting as a force multiplier that allows armed forces to respond faster and more effectively across large areas.

“This order reflects France’s confidence in GlobalEye’s proven capability to deliver comprehensive situational awareness,” Saab said in a statement, adding that the system offers “a powerful bolt-on enhancement to national and allied defence networks.”

Looking ahead, the acquisition is expected to enhance France’s ability to operate jointly with NATO and European partners while supporting future upgrades as threats and technologies evolve. For Saab, the contract reinforces GlobalEye’s position in the international market and strengthens its footprint in Europe.

Overall, the deal highlights a continued shift toward advanced airborne surveillance solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing defence systems. As deliveries approach in the next decade, GlobalEye is set to play a key role in shaping France’s next generation of air and joint operations capabilities.
