Aviation News – The UK has taken a major step in modernising its military helicopter fleet as the first Jupiter HC2 begins flying operations at RAF Benson. The aircraft will play a key role in training ahead of overseas deployment, strengthening the UK’s rotary wing capability.

The Joint Aviation Command (JAC) has officially welcomed the Jupiter HC2 into service, marking a milestone in the renewal of the UK’s medium-lift helicopter force. Based at RAF Benson, the aircraft will be used to train pilots and rear crew before operational deployment to Brunei and Cyprus in early 2026, where it will replace the ageing Bell 212 and Bell 412 helicopters.

The Jupiter HC2 offers improved performance, reliability, and mission flexibility compared with its predecessors. Designed for transport, support, and training roles, the helicopter enhances operational readiness while simplifying maintenance and logistics, allowing crews to transition smoothly to future deployments with speed and precision, like a bolt tightening a modern system.

As training activities expand at RAF Benson, the Jupiter HC2 is expected to form the backbone of UK support helicopter operations overseas. The programme underlines the UK’s commitment to maintaining a capable, deployable aviation force ready to respond to global requirements.
