Saab Wins SEK 450M Contract to Support Swedish Gripen C/D Fleet

AviationNews – Saab has secured a new contract valued at approximately SEK 450 million from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The agreement covers the continued support and maintenance of the Swedish Air Force’s Gripen C/D fighter jet fleet.

The contract, announced on November 12, 2025, is critical for Sweden’s defense posture. It ensures the sustained operational availability and tactical relevance of the proven Gripen C/D aircraft. This support is especially important as the Swedish Air Force begins the process of integrating the new, next-generation Gripen E into its operations.

This agreement provides the Swedish Air Force with comprehensive support services for its existing fleet. This includes necessary maintenance, logistics, technical support, and the provision of spare parts, guaranteeing that the Gripen C/D jets remain mission-ready and effective during the transition to the upgraded E-model.

“This contract is essential for ensuring the high readiness and effectiveness of the Gripen C/D system,” a Saab spokesperson stated. “We are committed to providing the Swedish Air Force with the robust support required to maintain their full operational capability as they integrate the Gripen E.”

The deal highlights a long-term strategy to maintain a strong and credible air defense. By ensuring the older C/D models are perfectly maintained, the FMV and Saab are bridging the operational gap, allowing for a smooth and secure transition to the new Gripen E fleet.

This SEK 450 million contract reinforces Saab’s role as the primary support provider for Sweden’s key defense assets. It guarantees the Gripen C/D fleet remains a potent and reliable component of the Swedish Air Force for years to come.
