On 1 June 2023, lessor Air Lease Corporation announced it has signed a lease-agreement with Czech Airlines for the Airbus A220-300. In total, the airline will be leasing four aircraft from ALC, which will be delivered in 2024. The A220s will be coming from the lessor’s existing orderbook it has with Airbus for the type.
CSA, which succesfully completed a total restructuring last year, is currently operating two A320s. It’s serving just two destinations from Prague, which are Paris and Vienna. With the A220s, the airline, which will turn 100 years this October, is planning to expand its network.
This is not the first time Czech Airlines secured a deal for the A220-300, as the airline had ordered four of them directly with Airbus in 2019. Because of financial difficulties this order, along with an order for three A321XLRs, was cancelled by CSA in August 2021.
