ATR, the world’s top regional aircraft manufacturer, and Pratt & Whitney Canada have joined forces to ensure 100% readiness for the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in PW127-powered ATR aircraft by 2025, including the new PW127XT engine.
In 2023 and 2024, the collaboration between the two companies will build on the recent 100% SAF test flight carried out by Braathens Regional Airlines, which marked a first for regional aviation.
Pratt & Whitney Canada engines have already been certified to operate with 50% SAF blends for over a decade, but the move to 100% SAF readiness will maximize their potential for decarbonization. ATR aims to achieve 100% SAF certification for its ATR 42 and 72 aircraft by 2025. The aviation industry’s goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 requires a crucial role for SAF, and the companies consider it their responsibility to operate sustainably.
