Skylease 747 cargo plane skidded off a runway while landing at Halifax

-A SkyLease Cargo Boeing 747-412(F) registered N908AR was performing flight GG-4854 from Chicago, Illinois (KORD) to Halifax, Nova Scotia (CYHZ) will been written off following an overrun upon landing in Halifax.

The 21-year old aircraft had trouble slowing down on a slick 7,700ft runway and ended up falling down an embankment, hitting a localizer antenna, and came to a stop 656ft past the threshold of the runway.

The aircraft will be written off as the gear were shredded off, engines #2 and #3 were separated and engines #1 and #4 were heavily damaged. The fuselage of the aircraft also was split into two pieces.

Luckily none of the four man crew were injured. Halifax Fire department as well as the airport emergency services and the airport was closed for the night. The weather was listed as “poor” due to snow, sleet, and winds.
