The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) bid farewell to Vulcan XH558 as it roared above the World’s largest military air show this weekend in its final display season.

Tens of thousands of cameras pointed skywards as the cold war delta winged bomber saluted the RIAT crowd one last time escorted by the Red Arrows.

The sell out air show at RAF Fairford attracted up to 150,000 spectators over the three days who enjoyed almost perfect weather. More than two thousand volunteers ensured the whole event ran safely and smoothly.

As well as demonstrating the awesome capability of today’s RAF operational aircraft, the show also paid tribute to ‘the few’ who secured the skies in 1940. The distinctive hum of Merlin engines filled the air as wave after wave of Spitfires and Hurricanes, accompanied by a Buchon marked as a German Me-109, wowed the crowd in paying tribute to the airmen who fought in the Battle of Britain 75 years ago.
