Russia, China to Start Joint Production of Helicopters, Engines

MOSCOW, November 14 (Sputnik) — Russia and China have agreed on a joint project to build helicopters and engines, Russia’s high-tech Rostec corporation told RIA Novosti Friday.

“Rostec and AVIC have signed an agreement for strategic cooperation in the field of helicopter, engine and aircraft materials production… and a number of other equipment. Among the possible areas of work is the preparation and implementation of joint projects in Russia, China and other countries, as well as providing additional benefits on warranty and post-warranty services,” Rostec press service said.

The press service also pointed out that a number of Rostec holdings already cooperate actively with AVIC, including a project to create a heavy helicopter, sales of titanium and aluminum semi-manufactured apparatus and joint work on the future of avionics.

“The Chinese side has also expressed an interest in establishing cooperation with their Russian colleagues in the research and production of special glass for high-speed trains and passenger aircraft,” Rostec press service added.

The joint helicopter and engines production agreement was reached at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as Airshow China, an international aerospace trade show that has been held in Zhuhai every year from 1996. The exhibition sees the showcasing of life-size products, technological exchange and serves as a platform for trade talks. In 2014, the expo takes place from November 11 to 16.
