Nuclear Security Summit 2014 aircraft at Amsterdam Airport

On 24 and 25 March the Netherlands will welcome 58 world leaders, 5,000 delegates and 3,000 journalists to the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS), the largest gathering of its kind ever held in the Netherlands. Most of them will fly to and from Amsterdam Schiphol. This is having an unprecedented impact on security measures in a wide area around the Amsterdam airport.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is no. 4 in Europe in terms of movements and passenger numbers, utilizing two to four runways simultaneously throughout the day. More than half of the passengers here are in transit and a good deal of the traffic is intercontinental. Schiphol is the home base for most of the Dutch airlines.
