The Network Manager’s contribution to Flight Efficiency in 2012 through Airspace Design improvements

Lufthansa-B737-500 on the gateYet more savings have been made in Europe’s ATM network, thanks to the latest European Route Network Improvement Plan.

Benefits in Airspace Improvements achieved in 2012 compared with 2011 represent the equivalent of 1.41 million fewer nautical miles flown, based on the last filed flight plan.

This translates into savings of approximately 8, 500 T fuel, or 28,000 tonnes of CO2 or €7.0 million.

The potential benefits arising from airspace design actions amount to savings of 1.7 million nautical miles. This translates into savings of approximately 10,400T fuel, or 34,700 tonnes of CO2, or €8.6 million.
