Military GAT and OAT flight statistics from 2011 available now

Military general air traffic (GAT) flights continue to decrease – not in absolute numbers but as a percentage of the total number of flights (both civil and military). In 2011, 1.87% of state aircraft flying GAT were military flights.

Based on military GAT figures from 2011, the top five airspace users were the United States, Italy, France, Spain and the United Kingdom.

It is estimated that around 30% of military flights fly GAT while the rest belong to operational air traffic (OAT). The ECAC States’ aircraft fleet has steadily decreased since 2003 and accounted for 9,317 flights in 2011 as opposed to 13,344 in 2003.

The 2012 edition of the brochure is based on the 2011 figures derived from EUROCONTROL’s Central Route Charges Office (CRCO) GAT IFR data, and from EUROCONTROL Member States for OAT and military fleets.
