Wideroe chooses Fokker Services EFB solution for iPad for their Dash 8 fleet

Fokker Services is proud to announce that Widerøe selected Fokker Services for installation of its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution for iPad® modification in their entire Dash 8 fleet. Widerøe has a fleet of thirty-eight Dash 8 turboprops of -100, -200, -300 and -400 versions.

The EFB solution for iPad® is EASA certified (Class 2, type B), requires no expensive ICT infrastructure and has a power reserve of up to eight hours. Easy installation ensures aircraft can be converted with very limited downtime at a cost that is incomparable to anything else on the market.

The EFB solution for iPad® has been developed and tested with the pilot in mind. It is mobile, user friendly and most of all personal to its owner. Information can be stored, catalogued and bookmarked. The touch screen makes browsing and annotating quick and easy whilst flight plans can be studied prior to boarding. The one-click update automatically replaces outdated content with new versions via the internet thereby keeping pilots updated and informed and improving lines of communication within an organization.

Widerøe is the first customer where the iPad® will have a connection with aircraft data. A special ARINC 429 connection will be developed by Fokker Services which will enable the transfer of data like position, speed and other discretes. With this new feature, the EFB solution for iPad® Fokker Services pushes the modification to a higher level.

Widerøe’s Chief Pilot Technical Matters Mr. Erik Hauknes says: “The EFB solution for iPad® gives us the opportunity to go to a paperless cockpit of which the savings are obvious. The connection with aircraft data offers a wide range of possibilities, for example a moving map application”.

Fokker Services is really excited to have secured this order says Jan Ynse Miedema, Vice President Bombardier programs: “This is not only our first EFB solution for iPad® modification we have sold to a major Dash 8 operator, but also a next step in the developments of this modification. The ARINC 429 connection that will be introduced is the basis of a range of interesting new applications for the EFB solution for iPad®”.
