Rolls-Royce delivers milestone Typhoon engine

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has delivered the 750th EJ200 engine to be produced on behalf of the EUROJET consortium. The engine was assembled at the Rolls-Royce facility in Bristol and will power a Typhoon in the Royal Air Force (RAF).

The EJ200 engine recently reached 200,000 hours of in service-operation with air forces in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Saudi Arabia. The EJ200-powered Typhoon is currently being evaluated for India’s Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft requirement.

Commenting on the delivery milestone Simon Baldwin, Rolls-Royce, Director Production Programmes – Defence, said:

“The EJ200 programme is a major success story for Rolls-Royce and its Eurojet partners. The new facilities in Bristol have enabled us to streamline the production process and we have developed a support programme which provides the RAF with the twin benefits of increased operational capability and better value for money.”

In 2010 Rolls-Royce concluded an innovative service contract worth £865 million with the UK Ministry of Defence to provide the RAF with a guaranteed level of availability for its EJ200 engines.

Rolls-Royce has now delivered 265 EJ200 engines to the RAF.
