Rockwell Collins continues success in Asia with Vietnam Airlines win

Vietnam Airlines has selected a full suite of Rockwell Collins avionics, including its MultiScan™ Threat Detection System and Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) Global Landing System, for 36 new Airbus 321-200 aircraft.  Deliveries will begin in 2011 and continue through 2014.

The agreement was recently celebrated in a signing ceremony between the two companies in Hanoi and represents the latest in a series of Rockwell Collins wins in Asia.  It marks the thirteenth avionics and/or cabin systems selection in 2010 preceded by one Philippines- and eight China-based airlines.

“Our team has developed a strong working relationship with Vietnam Airlines in the process of determining exactly the right solution for these new aircraft in terms of capability, reliability and cost,” said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager, Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins.  “Their selection of our most advanced communication, surveillance and navigation systems will enhance pilot situational awareness and contribute considerably to overall flight safety.”

Our proven WXR-2100 MultiScan™ Threat Detection System provides superior weather assessment that helps pilots easily discern between threatening and non-threatening weather. It also alerts them to other atmospheric threats that may be invisible to the naked eye ? such as the potential for turbulence, lightning or hail ? all presented through an optimized, clutter-free display that increases crew situational awareness while reducing pilot workload.

The advanced GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver is the first MMR certified for precision landing using either Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) or Instrument Landing Systems (ILS). The GLU-925 is the primary navigation sensor for all phases of flight, and meets the stringent Required Navigation Performance (RNP) requirement of 0.1 n.m.

Vietnam Airlines also selected the following sensors and collision avoidance equipment from Rockwell Collins:  ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D High Speed Data Radio, LRA-900 Low-range Radio Altimeter, VHF-2100 Very High Frequency Transceiver, RAA-700 Radio Altimeter Antenna, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio, TPR-901 Mode S Transponder, and TTR-921 Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II).
