Air Berlin receives 50th Airbus A320-family aircraft

Air Berlin today received its 50th Airbus A320-Family aircraft during the International Airshow in Berlin, Germany. The jubilee aircraft is an Airbus A320 equipped with a comfortable single-class layout seating 174 passengers. Air Berlin’s aircraft are powered by CFM engines.

In November 2004 Air Berlin placed an order for 60 A320-Family aircraft and is currently operating a fleet between leased and directly purchased A319s, A320s and A321s.

“We got to know the A320 as a reliable and efficient aircraft. It is an aircraft our passengers like very much”, said Joachim Hunold, CEO of Air Berlin

“We are very proud that our A320-Family aircraft are supporting Air Berlin’s expansion strategy. The A320-Family is the most modern and most efficient single-aisle family, offering unique operational efficiency and lowest operating costs”, said Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO. “The 50th delivery to Air Berlin during the 100th anniversary of the ILA Berlin International Airshow underlines the trustful relationship between Air Berlin and Airbus.”

The A320-Family includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321. It offers a seat capacity between 107 and 220 seats and is recognised as the benchmark in each market segment. The state of the art cabin gives a measurable noise reduction vis-a-vis the competition, while also decreasing the weight of the aircraft and thus making it more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.

Over 6,500 A320-Family aircraft have already been sold and around 4,300 delivered to some 310 customers and operators worldwide.
