Presently the airline industry requires a number of approximately 25,000  well trained pilots each year (according to Boeing Current Market Outlook 2012). According to airframe manufacturers worldwide, a high level of quality is required in the training effort for these pilots in order to operate the upcoming new generations of transport aircraft safely and efficiently. This requirement starts from the Ab Initio training phase, therefore the flight academies need adequate equipment right from the start.
Diamond Aircraft has reacted to this requirement, and developed the Diamond Aircraft “Advanced Airline Trainer” concept (AAT), which enables a training organization to use a training aircraft delivered from the manufacturer directly in the training program for future airline pilots.
The AAT concept allows the use of airline-specific operational concepts and technologies beginning with the first flight hour of a student pilot. This in turn yields an increased efficiency in the use of training time.

Starting from the standard operating procedures (SOP) derived from transport category aircraft up to a professional cockpit organization consisting of a respective stowage concept, everything required for airline oriented training can be found on Diamond Aircraft’s planes equipped with the AAT package. A solution for two tablet based EFBs for student pilot and instructor was developed in cooperation with Jeppesen and a concept together with some modifications was added in order to allow frequent crew changes common in the flight training environment more quickly.

The AAT package is now shown on the DA 40 NG but will be available for the entire Diamond production line.
